The Frederick National Laboratory is operated by Leidos Biomedical
Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and
intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS,
drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications
of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging

way. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Laboratory Animal Sciences Program
(LASP) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical
support services for animal research performed at the National
Cancer Institute at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer
Research. LASP executes this mission by providing a broad spectrum
of state-of-the-art technologies and services that are focused on
the design, generation, characterization and application of
genetically engineered and biological animal models of human
disease, aimed at the development of targeted diagnostics and
therapies. LASP contributes to advancing human health, developing
new treatments and improving existing treatments for cancer and
other diseases while ensuring safe and humane treatment of animals.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES The Assoc Scientist I, Imaging will be
responsible for: Performing nuclear and optical imaging studies
involving mainly, but not limited to, mouse models of disease or ex
vivo samples. Developing, optimizing and implementing nuclear
imaging (PET/SPECT/CT and radiometric assays) and optical (BLI/FLI)
image acquisition and analysis protocols tailored to each study.
Maintaining and expanding working knowledge in nuclear and optical
image acquisition, reconstruction and analysis, as well as imaging
scanner operation and capabilities. Maintaining knowledge of
procedures, SOPs and workflows related to radiation safety and
proper handling of radioactive materials and/or samples. Working
with investigators on imaging submissions, protocols, analysis and
publications. Providing imaging study cost estimates, as pertinent.
Developing and providing study analysis reports to NCI
investigators. Coordinating studies with LASP cores and facilities.
Assisting in maintaining SAIP supplies. Working with hazardous
chemical, biological or radiological materials. Working with
rodents in ABSL1 and ABSL2 environments. Assisting in all SAIP
imaging, analysis, and administration functions. BASIC
QUALIFICATIONS To be considered for this position, you must
minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited
college/university according to Council for Higher Education
Accreditation. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S.
equivalency. In addition to educational requirement, minimum 8
years of experience in preclinical animal (rodent) imaging
research, with focus on optical and nuclear pre-clinical imaging
acquisition and analysis. Experience with animal handling;
injections, anesthesia, drug administration, and necropsy.
Experience with regulations and SOPs related to radiation safety,
and ACUC regulations. Ability to work in a team and communicate
with management and investigators in a demanding scientific
environment. Ability to keep detailed and accurate computer records
and maintain/update data in computer-based applications/databases.
Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for animal facilities
and the basic requirements for maintaining laboratory animals and
performing scientific procedures involving animal imaging, data
collection, and image analysis. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and
to wear respiratory protection equipment when necessary. Must be
able to work alone, troubleshoot optical and nuclear medicine
equipment and analysis issues. Must be able to obtain and maintain
a security clearance. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Candidates with
these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
Knowledge of MS Office programs, Graphpad Prism. Ability to
multi-task and work alone. Excellent written and oral
communications skills. Experience in non-clinical imaging. Job
Hazards This position is subject to atmospheric conditions that
would require the usage of a respirator, requiring a medical

position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure
to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and
immunizations. This position is subject to working with radioactive
material and requires to become an approved radiation worker.

pay range for this job is a general guideline and not a guarantee
of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in

salary and will vary depending on scheduled hours for part time
