Job Description:
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a passionate and
experienced Software Development Engineer to join our elite team
and shape the future of cloud computing. This position is a
developer role within the EC2 VPC team based in the Washington DC
area. Become part of a team engineering the core software that
powers the massive AWS cloud. As a Software Development Engineer,
you will collaborate with a talented group of professionals who
deliver EC2 network virtualization systems. While the domain is
networking, our focus is on innovative software solutions. Our
engineers work on massively distributed applications written in
Java and Kotlin, with automation scripts crafted in Ruby, Python,
and more. Our services span a wide range, from large-scale web
services that empower customers to reconfigure networks on-demand
to metering all network usage across AWS (processing billions of
records per hour). We are at the forefront of delivering
"API-defined networks" at an unprecedented scale. To learn more
about our innovative work, visit https://aws.amazon.com/vpc/. In
this role, you will be engaged in all phases of the software
development lifecycle, from defining and implementing new features
to rigorous testing. We are passionate about delighting customers
while maintaining the highest standards of software quality. We
never compromise one for the other. This position involves on-call
responsibilities, typically for two weeks every 2-3 months. The
first week is primary on-call, and the second week is secondary. We
prioritize fault tolerance to minimize disruptions, but when
incidents occur, we work together to resolve the root cause and
prevent future occurrences. At AWS, we believe in the power of
collaboration and knowledge sharing. Good code reviews are
essential to raising our code quality, growing our technical
acumen, and fostering a supportive environment. We take pride in
supporting our code in production and shipping code every day. Our
team has cultivated a strong sense of trust and camaraderie over
the past two years. We value work-life harmony and support core
working hours from 10 am to 4 pm Eastern, with flexibility for
early risers and night owls. Our dedicated team is committed to
supporting new members and encouraging curiosity. We are a team of
mostly mid-level engineers who enjoy mentoring junior engineers
through one-on-one guidance and thorough, yet kind, code reviews.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, and
reliable teammate who will contribute to and build upon our team
culture. If you are passionate about cloud computing and thrive in
a collaborative environment, we invite you to join our team and
embark on an exciting journey of innovation. Key job
responsibilities In this role, you will be part of a two-pizza team
in an org of 40 engineers. You will help establish technical
direction, foster team culture, grow junior engineers and deliver
exciting features to internal and external customers. About the
