Requisition ID: 114683CRNAWe are seeking a CRNA. This position
reports jointly to the Clinical Lead CRNA and the Division Chief of
Nurse Anesthesia (Chief CRNA). Primary clinical responsibilities
are (a) the administration of intravenous, inhalation and other
anesthetics to patients in an operating room and (b) observing the
physiological condition of patients while under anesthesia. In
conjunction with these primary responsibilities (a) evaluates each
assigned patient's physical state and plans the course of
anesthesia, (b) obtains, assembles, operates, and/ or monitors
anesthesia equipment and (c) ensures that all necessary supplies,
drugs and anesthetic agents are available.Specific Duties &
Responsibilities
- Independently researches new/unknown procedures, diseases,
medications, and equipment.
- Functions within safe parameters for quality/good patient care.
Seeks assistance from attending anesthesiologist when appropriate.
Uses critical thinking skills and adapts to changes as
necessary.
- Applies knowledge of pre-op, intra-op, and post-op in effective
manner under normal conditions and under emergency conditions.
- Demonstrates technical competence. Employs dexterity when
performing anesthetic procedures.
- Understands all anesthetic equipment used in the JHH OR, uses
items to full advantage, and handles equipment carefully. Sets up
all necessary equipment for a successful anesthetic course.Performs
& Documents Timely Pre-anesthesia Assessments
- Review of medical history (including anesthesia, drug and
allergy history)
- Focused physical examination (heart, lungs, airway, ASA
classification)
- Plan for anesthesia care
- Obtains anesthesia informed consent
- Collaborates and consults with attending anesthesiologist prior
to start of case on plan for anesthesia care (general, regional,
combined, local, and sedation techniques) when applicable
- Anticipates key procedures and assures an anesthesia
environment (e.g., supplies & equipment including anesthesia
machine check, fluid warmers, blood, any 'special') necessary to
carry out anesthetic plan
- Orders and administers pre-anesthetic medications and
fluidsIntra-012 Assessment
- Selects, applies and inserts non-invasive and invasive
monitoring devices.
- Selects and administers anesthesia, sedation, adjuncts and
accessory drugs and fluids.
- Manages patient airway and pulmonary status.
- Demonstrates understanding of relevant clinical issues,
recognizes priorities in clinical situations; aware of own limits;
appropriate use of tests and procedures.
- Maintains effective communication with team (i.e.,
intraoperative personnel & Attending Anesthesiologist) including
briefing and debriefing discussions.
- Facilitates emergence and recovery from anesthesia and
transport to recovery area, providing thorough report to receiving
unit in a timely manner.Post Anesthesia Evaluation & Management
- Implements acute and chronic pain management.
- Performs and documents timely post anesthesia evaluation and
discharges patient from recovery area when appropriate.
- Provides a complete report of patient's anesthetic course and
any pertinent information necessary to accurately transfer care of
the patient.
- Facilitates room turnover in a timely fashion (room, medicine
and equipment prep, pre-op assessment).
- Provides medical services according to the JHM Service
Standards to include: Patient Relations, Self-Management, Teamwork,
Communications, Ownership/Accountability, and Continuous.Minimum
Qualifications
- Completion of a nurse anesthesia program approved by MD Board
of Nursing. If program was completed after 1/1/08, a Master's
Degree is required.
- Current MD State RN and CRNA license required.
- Current CPR certification, ACLS required.

include all components of the School's compensation program. This
position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Therefore, the
actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary
slightly from the salary range stated herein. For more information,

sign-on / retention bonus in the amount of $30,000 for CRNA hires
and $90,000 for SRNA hires, with a three year commitment.Total
RewardsThe referenced base salary range represents the low and high
end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position.
Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary
range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors,
which may include the successful candidate's geographic location,
skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and
