What you'll do

The Vice President of Space and Mission Systems is the business leader in charge of all aspects of management and operation for the Space and Mission Systems business area.

The vision of the Space and Mission Systems division is to enable and enhance evolving National Security Space Architectures through resilient communications, space situational awareness, advanced space networking, and multi-function systems. It also aims to invest in differentiated space products and applications to create new service offerings and drive dual-use business cases with our commercial and defense technology.

The candidate will identify unique defense customers and critical government mission requirements and programs that Space and Mission Systems can provide services and cutting-edge technologies for, bringing about innovative solutions addressing emerging capability gaps, responding to warfighter needs, and evolving national security priorities.The candidate will develop strategies that solidify relationships with a portfolio of executive-level partners, co-developers, and customers, ensuring we are appropriately positioned to secure government contracts and Congressional funding that delivers Viasat's differentiated technologies and services to the warfighter.

Viasat's Space and Mission Systems division comprises a diverse, highly matrixed, and geographically dispersed workforce. The role delivers positioning strategy and execution oversight that aligns with segment strategic goals. The planning effort involves multiple business units generating significant revenue, with projections for substantial growth over the next five years.

The role requires a track record of effective teamwork, demonstrated successful collaboration across a matrixed organization, and a unique blend of process and strategic capability with business and technical acumen in the government and commercial space sector, as well as productive, positive relationships with customers and partners that will allow them to hit the ground running as they assume leadership of this business. The ideal candidate combines intelligence, experience, confidence, humility, and superior communication skills with a strong work ethic to build the group's solid foundation.
The day-to-day

  • Lead Space and Mission Systems business area in support of the strategic and operational plans that deliver on customer missions and drive substantial and incremental value for the business and the segment.
  • Identify, pursue, and lead the capture and proposal process in support of Space and Mission Systems.
  • Lead multiple business units and capture management teams ultimately committed to driving growth in the business and sustaining a culture of excellence.
  • Studies and synthesizes data that defines market opportunity and competition.
  • Coordinates and leads engagements and strategic alignment with key customers, agencies and branch of services.
    What you'll need

    • The role demands a deep understanding of the space, satellite, and communications industry, familiarity with US Government requirements (including those of the US Space Force), awareness of current technology trends and their implications (such as V-Band, FSO, proliferated LEO, and Micro-GEO strategies), strong business acumen, and experience in profit and loss management.
    • Demonstrated accountability for organization effectiveness in a complex, matrixed-managed, high technology organization in public or private sector.
    • 10+ years of leadership experience in a technology business is required, including 5+ years of leadership experience driving and influencing organizational strategy.
    • Expert level experience two or more of these competency areas: strategic planning, marketing, technology, process improvement, product management, project management organization, application development, technology operations, or engineering.
    • A Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study.
    • Ability to travel.
    • US Citizenship.
    • Active US TS/SCI security clearance.

        Salary range

        $282,500.00 - $402,500.00 / annually.
        For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $342,000.00- $463,000.00/ annually
