Job Description Job Description Laborer & Driver’s Helper (Crew
Member) Job Summary The Laborer & Driver’s Helper (Crew Member)
performs general labor tasks assigned by the Crew Leader or Foreman
and supports safe vehicle operations. This includes assisting with
pre?trip inspections, loading/unloading materials, spotting the
driver, and maintaining safety procedures throughout the workday.
Compensation & Schedule - Pay: $17.75–$19.50 per hour - Overtime:
Time?and?a?half premium for snow removal - Schedule: Monday–Friday,
approximately 6:50 AM start; end time varies (3:30–6:00 PM) -
Locations: Kensington (20895) or Rockville (20850), MD - Year?round
employment available Major Duties - Arrive fully prepared and in
uniform at the job site or office as required. - Follow all tasks
assigned by the Foreman in a cooperative, positive manner. - Assist
with safe and legal truck loading, unloading, and driving
operations. - Maintain a positive, team?oriented attitude
throughout the workday. - Complete all assigned daily tasks and job
orders. - Work with other crew members to ensure safe, timely, and
cost?effective job completion. - Meet or exceed all company quality
standards and follow company policies. - Use tools and equipment
correctly and safely; ask questions if any task is unclear.
Specific Responsibilities - Review daily work orders with the
Foreman or Crew Leader to ensure full understanding of assignments.
- Safely operate tools and equipment following manufacturer
guidelines and company/OSHA standards. - Help the driver with
pre?trip inspection, checking lights and backup alarms. - Keep the
truck bed clear during machine loading. - Secure tools, equipment,
and materials onto trucks. - Ensure loads are positioned properly
(centered and 2/3 forward). - Assist in tying down heavy equipment
such as mowers, trenchers, tractors, and skid loaders. - Use double
wheel chocks when palletized materials are being loaded/unloaded. -
Get out of the truck to visually spot the driver during backing,
using hand signals and traffic flags. - Control traffic when the
driver is backing up, making U?turns, or connecting trailers. -
Always place wheel chocks when the truck is parked. - Set out
orange safety cones to designate the crew work zone. - Report
equipment and vehicle maintenance needs to the Foreman. - Direct
clients to speak with the Foreman or Crew Leader for any concerns.
- Report missing, broken, or damaged tools or materials. - At day’s
end, help inspect, clean, and secure all trucks, trailers, tools,
and equipment. - Dismiss assigned crew members once all daily
responsibilities are completed. Reporting Structure - Reports to:
Foreman - Coordinates with: Crew Laborers Qualifications - 6 months
of experience in the industry - Speaks English or willing to learn
- No prior experience required - Access to daily safety &
productivity training (JSLI tailgate talks) - Bilingual candidates
strongly encouraged - Preference for stable work history (avoid
